Report Week ending 18/5/14

This week shows how fickle salmon fishing can be. Wednesday was a real red letter day for the river with a great run of fish  with sealiced fish being landed on beats from Enniscorthy to as far up as Tullow. The fish are clearly running hard when they come in.

On one beat 3 rods made contact with a total of 14 fish with six of them landed. On Friday not one fish was landed on that beat despite very good water and hardly a fish was seen.

Can I remind all anglers of the importance of catch and release technique – the fish should preferably be released without being taken out of the water or photographed and immediately returned – I had a report today of a fish being out of the water a number for minutes before being returned much the worse for its experience.
