Finally off the Mark

On Tuesday the first Slaney springer of 2023 was finally landed.

For much of the period between the opening day on the 17th and today the lower and middle river has been out of order with one flood after another making fishing very difficult.

While the odd fresh fish has been seen from Enniscorthy to far upstream, it would seem that the main run has not started in earnest.

Colm Gallagher got the river off the mark with a lovely sea liced fish of about 15lbs on Tuesday caught in the Bunclody area. Another angler had a strong handshake from a fish on the same beat later that day.

True to form by midday Wednesday the river was rising and getting dirty so it may be a day or so before we have any more news.
