The Slaney opened on a catch and release basis for the first time in 3 years on 12 May. Despite the low water after a prolonged drought anglers were out in force with about 40 fish taken in the first week mainly on the lower river. One lucky angler had 4 fish in a couple of hours on the opening day. See below for a full report of the action on the river for the first week.
