Deveastating Fish Kill on Vartry

posted in: News | 0

A fishery owner on the Vartry reports that there has been a very high (almost total?) mortality level in the fish kill last. This all the more surprising due to the very high water levels. It is essential that the source of the kill is located and the perpetrators are made to pay to reverse the damage to what is a prime sea trout river where the local clubs, owners and authorities have done huge work in recent years to counter endemic poaching and to improve spawning and other habitat. See Irish Times report The fact that the river isĀ  lesser know than the Slaney or Nore for example does not make this any less important. The cause must be found and action taken.
