A meeting at Clohamon Wier took place on Friday 8th of October with Minister Malcolm Noonan, Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, his advisors and a cross-party group of politicians.
SRT representatives lead the party through the facility where Minister Noonan was brought up to speed on the current SRT tailrace project. The Minister and his special advisors showed a real interest in and knowledge of the impacts of the current structure and water regime. He expressed a genuine desire to finally bring an end to the environmental disasters at Clohamon. The SRT very much welcomes the visit and look forward to working with the Minister and his department as the project continues to develop.
We would also like to thank Minister James Browne TD, Paul Kehoe TD and Counsellor Barbara-Anne Murphy for their attendance. All three have played a long-term active role in support of the river and of the SRT in trying to get a solution to the issues at Clohamon.
Local community group representative Barty O’Connor was also part of the meeting and proposed the establishment of a new community area on the upper right bank to the Minister.
